Looks like a very neat all in one solution with a dac, digital inputs and even amps built in. It could be a very good way of dipping your toe in the water, especially if you were thinking of setting up a second system. But it might be a bit of waste just as transport

It would be a waste in a second system for which I don't have the space. £900 is ok for a decent transport that streams, rips CDs, has 2TB of storage and plays FM radio. I have perfectly decent amps and speakers already.

Steve,

Is it really a decent transport? - it appears to be built on a PC system... I've never seen a PC based system with a low jitter output... But that said, I've never measured (or seen) this unit.

I'd be more then happy to measure its jitter levels if I had a unit on hand.

If PhilCTTE brings his L3 Fusion to compare with my L3 Toy we will have two exactly level-matched DACs.

If someone else would like to bring an unmodified MDAC we will have three exactly level-matched DACs.

ItemAudio had offered to lend us a DAC at the £5K GBP mark which leaves us with the most difficult task of all:

Sourcing a £30 jobbie without actually buying one!

I suspect that after hearing Phil's Fusioned MDAC I will become a little more impatient to get my hands on an MDAC2.

On another subject, I may be getting into streaming after all. Word from the sources I respect suggest that this may be as good as a competent CD player used as a transport...

We will see....

Will MDAC2 have XLR digital output?

Where are you going to carry this out? I have a standard MDAC thats currently being used by my mate while i wait on the MDAC2. I could supply this if the time and place is convenient. I'm in London.

I know you have a couple of offers already but I can also offer up my standard MDAC, I live near Coventry so potentially fairly close.

It would be good to get an AURALiC Vega to compare to as I've heard good things about them.

That's pretty close.

Whatever happened to the Olive One ?
I hear rumors that they are no longer replying to emails ...

Should be good to hear all these dacs ..looking forward to it.

I'm I being bugged or what? I'm putting the pieces into place for a very special and extremely limited run of custom build power amps based on the MB's chassis - but there are no "Salvaged units" available so I'll be "scrapping" new MB's...

I cannot say much about the project, but its based on the TDAC's unique Tube front circuit and the Famous Sony VFETs' using in Class A :) I've secured enough VFETS (and it seems the very last pairs) to build 7 pairs of Amps, the first 2 pairs of amps are spoken for (The owner and "instigator" of the project has the first pair Serial #1 & #2 :) - and I'm FOR sure keeping a pair for my reference system :) )....

I've secured the High Gain Tubes (the TDAC uses lower gain variant) - the MB's and by far the most important the very last 15 pairs of Sony VFETS!!!

However the MDAC2 comes first...!

Pm me in regards to costs I maybe interested :D

The sock was bugged btw ! I think you hinted at something in an earlier post

Oh, you meant to say XLR Digital INPUT in the MDAC2 - no as there's no rear panel space.

What if the input from the SPDIF is used instead? There is some AES/SPDIF converters on the market. Not sure if it would go nicely with 24bit/192kHz.

Hi john,
Could you pm me your price estimation for the amp ?
I could be interested.

Hi all,
Unfortunatly someone stole the macbook pro (and all my headphones !!!) i'm using as music player with audirvana. I try to settle another one using a linux (mint 17) running PC (i7/6Gb RAM).
I've installed MPD and alsa but there'a a lot of ticks (the same kind as the ones i've had in the past with a osx upgrade but which is now fixed) when playing thru mdac.
Has anyone a correct configuration or do i have to patch then rebuild a kernel ?

Best regards,

Not Brum. A bit further but I live 1 mile from the station in a small market town.

PM me where you are and dates that your likely to host the bake off. I may be able to drive up if the dates allow. I'm quite interested to hear the differences for myself to be honest!

Michael,

They will be expensive as its very limited run / Custom design! and the cost of the very last batch of VFETS pairs and the MB donor units!...

The project "Instigator" :) uses a pair of Ncores which are considered to be the very best of ClassD - so the design is up against stiff competition ;) , that said Triode input stage, VFET ClassA Output stage - Current dumped its going to be a stunning design :)

How expensive are we talking about? Maybe you could give a rough estimate.

Best regards,

If you are using the optical toslink output you can set MPD to send the audio directly to spdif output without resampling.
See at the bottom of this post: http://forum.netjukebox.nl/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=588
A big advantage is that it is bit perfect!

Mabe you like the netjukebox MPD web client ;-)

Good luck,

Hi,

I don't know what kernel version Mint 17 is running but perhaps you might be suffering from this?

"On recent Linux kernels (3.8+ and -stable backports), MDAC produces crackling noise along with the music. This only enhanced older issue with buffer flushing on 24/96k streams that was/is present on some usb host chipset implementations (since 3.5 kernel version, backported to -stable as far as 3.0.x). Until this issue is resolved properly, there's a workaround available for Ubuntu 13.04. Similar approach can be taken on other distributions (just reuse the patch)."
