McIntosh MC2600

A friend has offered me an indefinite loan of a McIntosh MC2600. He got it free a few years ago and has never hooked it up. It came off a seismic exploration vessel where it had been put to work doing god-knows-what (scaring whales, probably) so it's been a workhorse in a sense that's quite unfamiliar to most audiophile gear.

This is a terrifying beast: 130lbs/60kg, 2 channels at 600W each.

With its history, it may be shot, but I'm pretty excited to give it a whirl nevertheless. Does anyone have any experience of McIntosh amplifiers?

Even if it has been worked to death it will be repairable. It's an amplifier. They don't know or care what they amplify, so even if it has spent 10 years driving a sonar generator it won't turn up its nose at driving speakers.
