MC2 power amplifier

I recall this was the flavour of the month on here a few years ago but seems to have dropped off the radar. Is it worth a punt given you get a lot of bangs for the bucks? Thinking for Magnaplaners and other speakers that sing with grunt such as Linn Sara.

Yes, just got a couple of MC450’s. Tried one driving my 2 DIY subs, did a great job with far better quality bass than my Behringer, but didn’t have the grunt to get past about 50% excursion on the subs.
Added a second and bridged them, now they are seriously capable and barely ticking over driving the subs. You will need to swap the fans for quiet ones if placed in your listening space.

One thing to bare in mind is that MC2 no longer service these older amps. I got one repaired at a local electronics specialist, so that’s an option.

If you have the money, the current S800 and S1400 models are supposed to be even better and, like the older amps, have been chosen over big name power amps in Hifi.

I didn't know they'd stopped servicing them. I've owned a MC1250 and MC450's -great amps but despite fitting quieter fans it just proved too intrusive in the listening room.

Do the fans on these amps run constantly or do they cut in if the amp gets too hot ? .

Interesting.
It seems that Behringer will not be supporting products made before their buyout of various companies.
I assume that includes Klark Teknik.
I was recently told the same about Tannoy, even current production models which have (presumably just) been updated a bit. Support for pre- and post-Behringer is different.

I find it is becoming increasingly difficult to get any support for products. It is becoming difficult to find people who can offer service. It is becoming difficult to obtain replacement components if you want to do repairs yourself.
We are becoming a shockingly wasteful throwaway society.

MC2/XTA aren't part of Music Group and the MC2 amps are very well made and use standard widely available components. There were many Tannoy spares no longer available before the acquisition but agreed this practice is widespread and getting worse.

I put Noctua Fans in that come with low noise and ultra low noise cable adapters.
With the low noise adapters, I can just about hear the fans from the listening position with no music playing. With the ultra low noise I can only just hear the fans with my ear against the amp.
Even with the ULN adapters, the amp only ever went up to the high speed on the fans when playing bass torture tracks that are basically 10hz sinewaves, so I think the cooling is adequate.

The fans seemed to run on slow constantly once the amp reached temperature in stereo mode driving 2 subs, but only come on occasionally for maybe 30 seconds when bridged.

Hi
I own the MC2 HS800 the new and improved version.
the MC2 web site itself is currently under maintenance to display the new HS series, much more musical and with the front knobs disabled

The fan are the Arctic brand and when no sound or in the piano/pianissimo passages i hear the noise!!!

I would like to replace the Artic with the Noctua ,but apart from the warranty problem i have been told that the fan replacement is not easy.
suggestions???

Welcome to pfm.
Suggestion 1: Live with the noise.
#2: Find someone who knows how to change fans, live with there being no warranty.
#3: Put them in a cupboard or other ventilated box to reduce the noise, or in the next room.
#4: Devise and construct a new case with a big heat sink so you no longer need a fan.
#5: Buy something else.

I would just live with it until the is warranty up, I have got used to mine - MC2 mc650 at about 4 metres from where I sit.

It did sit under a chair for a while where it couldnt be heard at all. Air intake on the front and output at the sides allowed for pretty inventive placement without overheating concerns.
