Lintone Audio over and out

As luck would have it I was at Lintone Audio this afternoon to pick up some speakers. So I received the news of their closure and was able to thank people I’ve dealt with over the years, before the email formally announcing it dropped into my inbox.

I’d been prepared for a move from the middle of Gateshead but it seems that this fell through and closure was the only option.

FWIW the staff advised me to keep my eyes peeled for a new Rega dealer in the area. The thought of having nothing left but the deep pile carpet and wall to wall Naim’s world of Peter Tyson is hard to contemplate.

What a shame. Used to visit when Tony was at the helm.
Tony went down with the ship.

August of 1974 brought about the establishment of Lintone Audio Ltd as the Norths premier Hi-Fi dealer.

Now some 50 years on, it will, on the 31st of August close its doors, primarily triggered by the expiry of the property lease and retirement.

It was hoped to sell the business and therefore securing the future of all employees. However, it was not to be and the sale of the company as a going concern to a third party collapsed. Achieving such an outcome is no longer a realistic possibility and the business will now close

It has over the years been a wonderful journey, and during that journey have met countless numbers of very engaging clients who have supported and promoted this business and, would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and gratitude for all the support shown over those years.

Should you require any assistance on matters of hi-fi, may I suggest you contact a friend and colleague Paul Hobson who, runs his own specialist hi-fi business and has been doing so very successfully for many years. The firm is Moorgate Acoustics, 643/645 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield S8 0RY. Tel No 0114-2756048Email [email protected] who will be only too pleased to offer assistance and advice on all matters hi-fi and music.

So, without further ado, may I take this opportunity to wish you and yours all the very best for the future.

Visited Moorgate many times. Great place. Good luck in your retirement and thank you for your advice over the years.

Fortunately THE very best dealer in the North East is alive and kicking, indeed going from strength-to-strength. Audio Therapy. Do yourselves a favour gentlemen of the N.E. (AND BEYOND) and check them out . As a very satisfied customer I cannot speak too highly of the service and products on offer.

I'm sure they are great but they don't have a workshop. My system is finished, just needs care and maintenance, I was looking forward to nothing more that dropping the turntable off every couple of years to swap the cartridge.

As things stand that is now going to take a drive down to Stockton.

We're going to lose a lot of businesses in every sector over the coming 6-12 months. Cheaper to close that keep the lights on, literally.
