Linn akito - cueing platform cracked: repair or replace ?

I dug my old LP12 out of storage a couple of days ago to try it out and see how it sounded these days. In short - dreadful.

Sounded like there was a permanent ball of dust gathered under the stylus. A cursory inspection revealed that the collar on the plastic cueing platform for the arm is cracked, and the platform sags to the point where the arm won't clear the record using the cue alone.

Two questions really:

(i) Is the poor sound quality likely to be due to the cracked cueing mechanism - or is it likely that there are other problems afoot ?

(ii) Can the broken piece be repaired or replaced by somebody reasonably practical - but without recourse to specialised tools and equipment ?

and maybe a 3rd..

(iii) If it needs replaced - any idea from whom I might get the replacement parts without having to suffer the usual Linn King's ransom prices ?

I’ve got an Akito 2b which has been repaired ( years ago before my purchase) so it can be done. Seem to remember he got specific glue for the job, rather than a blob of superglue.

Other problems. Whatever broke arm...arm probably broke something else too. Think you need to get a man in.

The 2b ‘s built in Scotland, and depending who you listen to better than Ittok, close to Mk1 Ekos ? Only owned Akito so no idea if that’s true.

Visually the 2b arm tube is textured finish rather than smooth.

IMHO a ghastly choice of finish for a tone arm, hardly exudes quality for the price. Apparently it's a good arm, but unfortunately looks third rate.

Seems 2b came sometime after Akito/2. According to Linn's 'Tonearms and Cartridges' dealer tome of Oct 1995...

Akito Introduced - 1989

Akito/2 Introduced Dec 1994
Scottish built, better bearings, paint. (S/N) 100,000

For the current price of Akito (£1,630. @ audio affair), back in 1989 one got an LP12 thrown in for free.
