Leica M flash synch problem.

The other day I tried connecting a Leica M2 to electronic flash, and to my dismay the camera would click but the flash would only fire, maybe once out of three, if I held the connector/adaptor thingy next to the viewfinder pushed sideways. I've tried cleaning the contacts with contact cleaner, no difference, and will try buying a new adaptor.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

The Leica flash sync socket on the old M3 & M2 is too big for a standard PC flash sync cable fitting.

Yes, that's it exactly. I've had it since the 1970s. Just wondering if after many years it can rot or corrode or something. Amazing it "only" costs £10. I may have to just buy a new one and try.

I've tried with a tester, and the camera makes the flash contact OK when the shutter opens, but not with the adaptor fitted. But testing the adaptor shows continuity. So, problem not solved but diagnosed. The adaptor is not making contact with the central contact in the camera. (God, this is a boring thread!)
