What kind of protection would I use and how would I apply it? My speakers were fine thoughwhen it did fail. Would have been expensive if they weren’t.

Later ones apparently did have protection. If an early one blew and didn't take a speaker with it I'd put the lottery on straight away! This applies to the vast majority of direct coupled SS amps without speaker protection and so is no slight on the Krell. As said above there is the Velleman module (which is a kit and has to be built first) plus many Chi - fi cheapo boards available. The velleman is self powered and I consider this essential personally.
