Jerry Sadowitz cancelled

foxwelljsly

Me too, I ate one sour too.
It appears that after one night the venue hosting Jerry Sadowitz's Edinburgh fringe show has refused to host it again as it does not align with their values. After hearing his Madeleine McCann routine at the Soho Theatre a few years ago, I'd love to know what he's done to finally tip a venue over the edge. I'd be disappointed if it's something as prosaic as just getting his cock out.

I can only hope he makes it to London this Xmas for his usual run as he's bloody hilarious and a great magician.

Hmm. 'You can be shocking, but not that shocking'. Or 'Nice out, isn't it?' 'Yes, but put it away, there's a policeman coming'.

I caught Sadowitz’s show a few years back. I can’t quite make up my mind about him. Of course he’s deliberately as provocative and foul-mouthed as it’s possible to be. The show I was at included a routine about that Austrian guy who locked his daughter in a basement and sexually abused her for years. It also included deliberately gratuitous pornographic imagery, and liberal use of questionable terminology such as the C word.

I wasn’t offended as I knew what I was in for, but I went with a female friend and was uncomfortable on her behalf, although she said afterwards that she was ok.

True, his close up magic is quite stunning. But the rest of his show was predicated exclusively in being as offensive and obscene as possible. Lenny Bruce kicked down that door 60 years ago and I wonder if there is much point, or artistry, in continuing to hammer at it?

I’ve seen sadowicz a few times over the years, he was always entertaining, thought provoking and fundamentally kind.

Be a shame if he’s lost that, if he has..

If you own a venue or platform you can host/not host whatever the hell you like. The term “cancelled” is used by the far right to push their racist and homophobic ideas onto student unions etc who do not want them. It is not a term I’d use outside this context. A venue rejecting an offensive comedian after one show is an entirely different thing IMO. It is no different to say pfm refusing to platform Britain First shit etc.

@Tony L there's no denying the show has been cancelled. Unless use of the word has been banned by order of Owen Jones.
No one was forced to buy tickets and see the show, and the venue were happy to book Shadowitz and host it.
If the venue weren't aware of nature of performer more fool them.

Obviously not given after they saw the show they terminated the contract for the next night. The venue will obviously lose money so it wouldn’t have been a decision taken lightly.

Does anyone know the context of the two alleged racial slurs?

It seems unlikely that he's an actual card carrying racist.

Or that anyone would be particularly surprised to see his penis.

Same argument. Just a venue exercising their right to platform whatever the hell they like.
Not the same argument, but you taking a similar position to those who demanded The Satanic Verses were banned.
Many inclined to authoritarianism self identify as progressive.
