Jays audio CD Transport Opinion

Perhaps you can substantiate why these units costing 4-5 figures, use nearly all their parts are from a £200 CD boom box/alarm clock? Rolls Royce prices, Lada parts in a fancy box and the audiophiles can’t drool over it enough or be defensive enough when the evidence is presented to them.
You working for Keith?

You working for Keith?

You won’t answer my point but instead make childish defensive attacks. The emperor with no clothes. The chaps in Japan must be laughing all the way to the bank. Look guys, we just use cheap shit components sourced from Chinese sweatshop, bits last used in a kids stereo from the 1990s costing us about £200, wrap it up in a fancy heavy metal box, get it reviewed by some pretentious audiophile magazines and hey look, they can’t get enough of it especially on pinkfish!!! After the tear down and the photos of the stock PCBs and average to poor components, all you can summon and resort to is schoolboy put downs.

You do seem quite hard to engage with and come over, at least in print, as a bit of a bully.

I can’t really see what you get back from commenting on this kind of thread other than wanting to watch people squirm, which no one is, I personally would just like to have some relaxed fun around my hobby.

I did click through to your link, seems about 18 yrs old and I can see where you get your stance from, we all have our influences.

I dish out sarcasm sometimes but sometimes have trouble following it when it’s aimed at me, as with your comments and link.

Music, as always, is my goal and anything, within budget, enhancing my pleasure and meeting my needs at the time is fair game. My latest fad is C.E.C. thanks.

A Caterham 7 uses a back axle from a 1970s Ford Escort or if you are lucky a Ford Sierra, gearbox from the same Escort or Sierra, brakes and front suspension from a Triumph Spitfire, engines from such exotica as Vauxhall Astra, Ford Escort/Fiesta, or a Metro, etc and is rather more expensive than the cars from which it takes its parts, yet it outperforms pretty well everything this side of £30-40k in the real world where it matters. I had a mid 90s version, these days it would be an antique, but at that time in the hands of an expert driver it left an M3 (with an equally expert driver) for dead.

Not everything is simply the sum of its parts.

I do however object to manufacturers who put a few components into a box, add a chip regulator that costs thrupence and has had a manufacturer's application sheet available for over 30 years, and charge thousands. There's no R&D there, I could have designed and assembled that as a 6th form electronics student, and did.

My experience has also been that cd via transport provides the best digital sound. I've clawed my way up to a Cambridge CXC transport, and could be convinced to go further if a CEC/Jays Audio etc. owner swaps out theirs for a Cambridge and tells me that there's a huge drop in sq.

Had a Tl51x for a few years and now use a Tl1x,which I have had for 8 years
Sounds fantastic and has been totally reliable

I have owned various transports inc cec tl0,cec 51x , several teacs with vrds, audio note, accuphase and many others. I can say that the Jays is head and shoulder s above the others. It has textural and harmonic correctness that few transports in my opinion will match and detail that I have yet to reach the end point for. It is matched with a nagra dac at present and i am still surprised by how it improves with every step up in dac quality.

I would have thought files played directly from a usb would sound better than any transport as there are no moving parts, potential noise issues.

More likely there will be more noise coming from any PC related device via USB. CD replay, like vinyl replay, is quite a simple process compared to digital replay via a computer device. There is less processing involved too with a CD transport.

No i mean a usb stick straight into a dac!

Seems that everyone today wants everything handed to them on a plate. In my opinion, the fun of audio is doing your own research and finding things out for yourself, by reading and talking to experts etc. You are not going to find all the answers by asking people on forums. You might get a few steers so you can then go off and find more out...

I am happy in my findings!
However you fail to back up your views!

What is it that adding unnecessary complexity to reading data improves?
