Any one catch Jacques Loussier on Beeb 4 last night.
Absolutely stunning! Not seen or heard him before but just had to order a couple of cd's from Amazon
Baroque Favorites and Play Bach. Can't wait...

Play Bach 1 was re-issued on some very nice vinyl a few years ago - Classic, speakers corner.. or one of those type labels. Vivante had then. I was hoping for a few more, including the Satie. I haven't looked for a bit so might be some more out there for V-heads who like JL. I can't remember ever seeing any s/h.

It's a great pity that J-L has been seen by some of the snobbier end of the Jazz market as a bit of a low brow gimmick, especially the Bach stuff. It's tight, swings and improvises on some fantasic tunes. Isn't that good jazz?

You can find Play Bach 1-5 LPs in any charity shop in the UK. He also did a great porn soundtrack called You Only Love Once - very spacey moog rock. Quality stuff

Sadly the recently deceased people of East Yorkshire seem not to be Louissier fans. Mostly James Last and Brass Bands.

I was bounced the room to Plays Bach by my mother when I was a baby. It probably accounts for my lack of rhythm

Still, I've got 3-5 on vinyl & Bach 2000, Plays Bach, and Plays Satie on CD. I never got on with his Goldbergs, Handel or Ravel.

His current bass and percussion are truely virtuosi. Even if you don't like the music just marvel at the technique and production quality.
