Is Chris Rea Really That Underrated?

I have every album he did up to God's Great Banana Skin, when I went off him. He was brilliant in the early days. His band played great sets in half filled auditoriums. Chris sticking his ciggies on the end of his guitar string, growling his intros in a Geordie burr.
Deltics, Do You Like Tennis and the eponymous album were all full of brilliant songs. If you look through his song titles he has a weird penchant for writing different songs with the same titles.
He did a whole bunch of albums just to fulfil his contract so that he could break away from the record company. He claimed he was bored producing the stuff they wanted.

I guess all those who used him on their recordings as a session musician regarded him as over-rated too.

Possibly a correlation between those with very low interest thresholds and Chris Rea likers.

Always interested in crass opinions.

That's a pretty piss poor effort for a discussion forum tbh.
Of course you are free, subject to ability, to create an "in praise of ..." thread.
Let me know if you need further help.

For future reference anyone, before expressing your musical taste run it by Still first.
You may be wrong.
