Info on IAS speakers

I’m looking at a pair of IAS speakers at an online auction. I’ve done a few searches and this is the only site I’ve found that has mentioned them. The model is “Cossack”. That’s all the info I have to go on. The price is right, so far, but it’s a 2 hour drive to look at them. Would they be worth the drive, and money? I have 2 teens in summer sports so my time is limited. Any thoughts?

Google revealed this,

IAS loudspeakers were produced over a number of years. We made a few models which all used a 1/4 wave back loaded horn system. We NEVER used complex crossovers, rather we built and designed the crossover to work with the very best drive units we could get hold of. We even used SERIES crossovers with very low roll of rates which impacted on the music very little. Although to the end of the IAS story we went to 12 dB per octave parallel xovers which were much easier to build. The stock was NOT BURNED when my partner Allen Willis died, the company was wound up correctly. So all stock was sold to local buyers usually at Southampton Uni.
The cabs you have are a pair of EARLY Cadnam Export. These were the top of our range of loudspeakers much much better than The Bealieu l/s. They had more bass extension, tighter bass definition, and a much more extended treble reproduction. The Bealieu was a flagship model which was surpassed by the rather large Double Bealieu which had a Volt B250, along with another bass driver, again a Volt 10 inch driver which had a HUGE magnet, these were placed in two horn tracks! We used an 8 inch Volt midrange as well as an Audax two-34 treble unit. These l/s were huge, about 5 foot tall about 25 inches deep and about 15 inches wide.

" would they be worth the money" well they're on an auction site so the price could double in the last hour, and you haven't said how much they currently stand at.

Ebay sold items returns zero, Hi-Fi Shark returns this.

Thanks for the help. I think I’m going to bid on them and see what happens. The more I dig into this my interest in them grows. I just didn’t want to spend a 1/2 day in the car and find a set of boat anchors. I think these are worth looking into.
