Hot tip - free Chess CD on Mojo

The title says it all, really. CD featurs such luminaries as Muddy Waters, Sonny Bo Williamson, Chuck Berry and Ramsay Lewis.

Mag looks like the usual pile of shite, but you can't win 'em all.

"The Word" is pretty much mainstream old fart ( like me I guess) and I think is run by the old "Q" smarms.

But, generally longer, better articles and decent cover-mount CD every so often.

Amongst the best of a very poor bunch.

This month's Wire magazine is worth reading, it has Mayo Thompson on the cover, which is reason enough to buy it.

Apart from the Wire, which is generally OK, I can't think of a single UK music magazine worth reading every month, although I do read Mojo occasionally (including the issue with the Chess cover CD, which is indeed well worth the cover price).

Second vote for The Wire - only one I buy these days. Good articles - not always well written, mind you- and most issues introduce me to something I've not heard before but feel the need to explore. Great layout and photography as well.
