  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Lowthers are best listened to over iPhone speakers….

I’ve not heard more than a couple of pairs of lowthers in the wild and both times it was severely underwhelming.

Tannoys I’ve much greater experience of, having owned a pair of 15” golds and a pair of Berkeley.

I think I can safely say that either are a compromise too far for me.

I came across this wonderful stereo pair of outdoor horn speakers recently:

Unfortunately I didn't get to hear them.

    ^ Don't bother - they're the epitome of 'one-note bass' ...

I think you'll find they are both the same tone, whatever is best for penetrating fog.

In what way David? Could you please elaborate a bit? What would you prefer for the money?

I had an active horn system using B&C DE250s and IB midbass and vocals were palpable, I’ve struggled to get realism this good with tweeters since.

One day I’ll revisit horns, but I’ll be going active and with plenty of power.

Bottom end timing, it’s all over the place. I’d rather not have the extension than have it be so loose.

I completely agree with the title of the thread. I've just sold my AG Uno Finos which are soon to be replaced with a pair of Duo XDs. Moar horn.

I can understand you saying that,

As one that lived with various lowther back horns in the 90s its something you can get used to though.
Then about 20 years ago I started using lowthers with separate bass drivers and then they can better many loudspeakers in my experence Trying to get real bass from an 8" high efficiency driver is challenging.

Try to get a pair of Gen 1 Duos or Duo Omegas if you can locate a pair...
