Hi Fi shops in Worcester (UK)

busb

Mine's a pint of beer please
Went to Worcester over the weekend to mainly visit the cathedral (well worth it!). We had a great time but there no longer seems to be a single Hi Fi shop left in this city. An Audio T was listed, Mannaudio & English Audio - all gone!

I've bought off the internet from Audiologica & was more than happy with my purchase & the service when it went wrong but the loss of shops worries me. At least Winchester has gained a shop that moved from an out often location (Phonography is now Winchester hi Fi).

HiFi Gear in Hereford is the nearest to Worcester these days and then it's a trip to Midland Audio Exchange or Cheltenham.

English Audio is based in Hereford, although it is closing down as Adrien is retiring. A sad loss, with nothing worthwhile to replace him.

I also prefer buying from a shop and am lucky to have a choice here in Lyon.

When visiting Leicester in June I saw no shops in the town centre - Cymbiosis seems to have moved out of the centre to some outlying village/small town and the others seem to have just closed.

Yep...watched them all go one by one, Mann Audio then Audio T went couple of years back.
Midland Audio Exchange in Belbroughton would have been your best bet, some lovely gear there.
Only reason to go into town is for food beer and coffee....plenty of coffee shops. You can't turn without smelling coffee.
There's a trend I've heard about , that in cosmopolitan locations there are coffee bars and bars where you can bring a few records and share tunes being played on top end vinyl systems. Now if that could be a way of introducing how good Hi-Fi can sound ..who knows.

Personally I can't see how any hifi shops stay in business these days. The 'generic' stuff is undercut by internet / discount stores / Tescos / PCWorld / etc and although the mark up on the specialist kit may be high, I don't see that they can sell enough of it to make much out of it.
We're down to 2 stores around Newcastle (used to be at least 4). After that you have to go to Edinburgh or Hull - about 200-300 miles round trip.

The Cymbiosis business model is far more sensible.

Why pay town centre rates/rents when the vast majority of your sales are going to be to people who will travel some distance to you and know what they are after? There cannot be much Naim 500/Linn Klimax-type kit sold to passing trade!

My sister in law just gave me a iHip Mega jam, basically a bom bom box,
I connected it by bluetooth to my phone and bom music,
of course the sound quality is horrendous to my ears, but I wonder why 90% of people should need more than that,
I think its price is a just a fraction of a single tweeter I have to buy..

I noticed one in Stratford-upon-avon at the weekend. did not go in as not needing anything at the moment.

I'm going to Bath tomorrow. Anything to look out for there? Looks like there's no record shops (s/h ideally) there. I mean vinyl BTW.

My intention was to browse - I've spent loads this year with no plans to buy anything until perhaps a TT late next year.
I'm lucky: Reading is close with a Richer S's, Audio T & 7Oaks , Guildford has 4, Oxford at least 2. Woking used to have an Audio T as did Basingstoke but had to go to Chalfont St Peter for my Quadral speakers.
Added:
There's a shop in Maidenhead & one it Eton as well.

I'm very pleased that you want to support hi-fi retailers. Browse now, buy later is fine. If no-one buys from proper high street retailers, we will find it hard to use our ears before buying something new.

Yes, I know lots of people like to buy used, as it looks like better value. But develop a problem, and you're on your own.
