He seems genuine enough.
The thing I'm unsure about is that it's serial number date's it as 1983, which the guy comfirms. Though it has an olive casing. I don't think Naim where known to replace chrome for olive when servicing. So what's happened here? Has someone messed with it before the guy has bought it?

Give Naim a mail/call, if they did the work to re-case it then they'll have a record of the fact.

You could ask them for new fascias. The switches are available from farnell.

The whole outside is an Olive one. I would ask for a picture of the rear to see if a digit was left out of his stated serial number. I am wondering if there there is another digit after: 17XXXX. That serial number he gave is 1984, not 1983.

Naim offered a case work change from Chrome bumper to olive , it was silly money for no change in sound quality.... the serial number dates it as 1984 , I bought a 32/Hicap serial numbers 13*** in 1984.
The on/off switch is easy to get hold of (about £1 from RS/Farnell) and easy to replace.
