Happy Birthday Martin Carthy

The Master is 80 today. He is probably the performer I have seen most in my life and what always hits me is that his guitar and vocal virtuosity, song curation and performing power are always at the service of the song. I don't know how many times he has sung "Famous Flower" but he always brings out new levels of meaning. Every time I'm gripped by the story. He's the nicest bloke you could wish to meet too!

Coincidental link... Mr Jones. Carthy famously taught Dylan "Scarborough Fair" (Dylan used the tune for "Girl from the North Country") and they remained friends. Dylan will be 80 on Monday.

Thanks for posting this thread. Carthy’s 80th has been somewhat overshadowed by Mr. Zimmerman’s. Eliza was pushing her dad’s birthday on Twitter last week.
