Half Man Half Biscuit

A great read, thanks.

I hope scattering ashes on the stage makes its way into a song one of these years.

My favourite bit was: "Statistically, some of these fans may have killed people – but they never seem to let that side out when we’re playing"

Unusually light on humour and rather good:

Slipping The Escort

The days she feared are here
The easy years are gone
His ‘best before’ draws near
And warning lights are on
Effort is tiring
But then again
Just for enquiring
She’ll get a free Parker pen

The surgery leaflets
Offer advice
But there’s no preparation
For losing him twice
And now he’s washed and dressed and ready
To keep him safe she’ll face the hurt
And if she could hold that needle steady
She could sew his name into his shirt

Apart, adrift, alone
Afraid of what’s ahead
She’ll be the evil nurse
And he’ll be underfed
Conduct report
Bound to be mixed
“Lashed out during bingo”
“Said the quiz night was fixed”
Occasional sunshine
Where clarity reigns
And memories are mutual
And we’re back in the lanes

Jeanette MacDonald had Nelson Eddy
And Bobby Darin had ‘Mack the Knife’
And she had him to hold her steady
Ah sweet mystery of life

At last I’ve found you!

Thirty Airbus
Thirty Airbus
Giving it the big ‘un in the Town End seats

A discussion on the HMHB site reveals:
You get a free Parker pen on the funeral insurance advert, just for enquiring.
‘Ah sweet mystery of life, is an old song featuring the lyric ‘at last I’ve found you’.
Airbus are a non league football team.
Slipping the escort is slang for getting away from the missis on match day. (looks like he really gave her the slip this time.)

I was trying to find a picture of NB’s guitar bearing the legend ‘this guitar kills wasps’ that @Joe Hutch tells me exists. This popped up on Google under the heading ‘Nigel Blackwell’s Blog.’

‘Nigel Blackwell was born in rural Oxfordshire in England. He has a love of books, a PhD in Physical Chemistry, and a black belt in pointing out the obvious. As a teenager he toured Europe, and hasn't stopped traveling since. He loves seeing the wonders of the world and meeting the people in it, and hasn't been anywhere that doesn't have the potential for a story. He now lives in Texas with his wife and daughter...’

My eyes leapt to the second sentence, which all seemed feasible. Blimey, Dr H kept quiet about the PhD though, I thought. That must be why he’s such a fan, like-minded academics and all that... I read on - yes, it could all fit... then I got to ‘Texas.’ Oh. Could this be a subtle joke? I then went to the first sentence. Something didn’t seem as I had been told there, either. Ah, the Wirral. Different person. It was fun for a few seconds, though.
