Dang, I thought I knew what the word was after the first two lines, but went with another stock word to ferret out another letter rather than just try my guess. I'd have been correct.
There's a lump in the western part of my county, the highest point in the area, called Mt. Shanall. It's where all the radio and TV broadcasters put their broadcast antennas. The area around Shanall was later developed for residential housing, and the developer changed the spelling to "Chenal". Many of the streets that were created in the area were given names like Chenonceau, Riechlieu, Chaval, Cheveaux, Bretagne, Lamarche, Latour... All very pretentious really. I remember back in the 1990s the phrase "...with the French spelling..." was common when giving directions in that area.

You know, so many English words have a French origin (!) and sometimes their spellings aren’t that different (!!) or are exactly the same!
