Great singles that weren’t on albums

Fleetwood Mac ( the proper Fleetwood Mac ) seemed to specialise in singles not ( originally ) on albums.

I forget them all but....

Man of the World
Oh Well
Need Your Love So Bad
Green Manalishi
Albatros
Black Magic Woman

It actually gave you a distorted view of what the band were really like if either you bought an album or went to see them in concert. The singles were so different to their general output.

Loved The Clash's run of Complete Control, Clash City Rockers and White Man In Hammersmith Palais. The Jam were ace at non-album singles too When You're Young, Strange Town, Going Underground, Funeral Pyre. The Bitterest Pill etc.

I must be misunderstanding this thread.

IIRC Gangsters was on the first Specials LP called 'Specials'

Most if not all the Jam singles mentioned were on albums

See Emily Play was on an LP called Relics

Some of the TRex singles (I think) were on albums

I agree re Smiths where some tracks were on Hatful of Hollow LP which could be regarded as a compilation album

Does the OP mean singles that weren't on an album at the time the singles were released?

The Jam singles I mentioned were not on original album releases at the time. May well have been added on CD reissues years later but that’s not the point. Same with Gangsters.

Manfred Manns Earthband...Joybringer. Part of the Solar Fire sessions but didn't make the album. A lovely happy vibe. Sounds like early Yes.

A Horse with no name - America , the first album was re-issued to include it after it became a hit.

Inspiration - Easterhouse
Alone Again (Naturally) & We Will - Gilbert O'Sullivan

I also remember being disappointed by the fact that Uncertain Smile was a re-recorded version on Soul Mining - The original 12" I much prefer.

They're all on my favourite Fleetwood Mac LP

Proper music.

According to Wikipedia, EP in the UK and LP in the US due to several extra songs. I have the EMI CD which seems to follow the latter.

That's true. Also, when they remastered the albums in '09, as far as I'm aware all the UK releases of the LPs had the UK covers and contents, apart from MMT, which had the US contents, and so was an album rather than an EP, which may be muddying the issue.
