Ive just stumbled over this place: www.audiokarma.org/forums/ - it is a great resource for anyone fixing up vintage Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui etc.
There is a very interesting thread stuck at the top of the Vintage Solid State room about how to check for DC offset on amps and receivers - I know bugger all about electronics but own a multimeter, and the simple test described there apparently gives an indication of how well / sick a piece of kit is. Ive checked a couple of old amps in my possession and it certainly backs up what I knew / suspected about which need attention.
Im interested in views from our resident electronics gurus on this test, it might be a good thing to incorporate into a pfm faq as it seems something easy enough to check when buying second hand kit.
Tony.
