Gold coins and bars

This may seem a strange question, but I may want to sell a small quantity of gold bars, Krugerrands and Sovereigns and I'm not too sure where to begin. I have no bullion dealers near me apart from pawnshops and one or two jewelers with signs outside their shops saying "Gold Wanted" - well it always is isn't it ? What would be the best and safest way to go about this? What do the pfm mafia do?

Always specialist sovereign dealers, not the 'gold wanted' crew because they don't take into account the special characteristics of a Krugerrand against just 'gold content'.

Johannesburg Exchange, but only for conversion into something other than Rand. I don't know what they are willing to exchange for though because I don't dabble in these static commodity assets.
