1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

But how many believe the nonsense they read in social media? This is the main delivery system for propaganda, far-right discourse and conspiracy theories now. It appears to be remarkably effective.

Farages last programme was watched by less than 50k. The powerhouse RW rags sell a couple of million a day.

But the people who watch/read them are already lost, it’s the remaining 40 million adults who need to be persuaded that a different future is possible. Constantly, over egging the effects of the RW media, rather than focussing on the ways the opposition has failed in the recent past and what it has to do to get into government, lets the Tories off the hook once more.

When was this thing launched? It's early days yet.'s more likely the Murdoch channel which will take the audience share. He's surrounding the news with the bait programmes like Jeremy Kyle type trash and other infotainment twaddle which keeps you watching. Also he hired Piers Morgan who hosted a very popular morning programme. There's no denying that mild right-wingery has a fairly broad audience. And even people not so inclined are subconsciously fed the twisted values.

The things the official opposition think they have to do to get into government mainly consist of being like the government.

If the opposition has failed because it is not opposing, what os the point of getting a non opposition into power? The problem is that because we do not have an opposition we will have a continuation of the status quo regardless of which of the main two parties, both of which coalesce around the same ideas, is in power.

Whoever you blame, the reality is that we now live in a right wing world. It’s not a question of letting the Tories off the hook, it’s the undeniable fact that the right has both hands on the fishing rod

While the prime time show, 'Farage', saw 107,000 viewers for its debut and a record 145,100 on August 5, the increase was short-lived.

Figures from BARB viewing data now show the average number of people tuning in to GB News has dropped by more than 20,000 per day since the channel's launch.

A week after the channel launched, GB News had sustained a viewership of 38,000.

By July 16, this had dropped to 18,000, and by August 12, this was 17,000.

Ouch. Surprised that the Express reported this given a marked similarity of political view. Maybe different, rival owners?

I just checked out the YT channel presence of "GB News" and the Farage show appears to be called "Talking Pints with Nigel Farage." :D

Right now that over-dramatic Scottish fellow from Coast is yapping.

How did Alan Partridge let that bombshell slip through his fingers. Smell my cheese.

One can only hope it ends in a really violent drunken bar fight. Nothing could be ‘more GB’.

    SteveS1 I heard that, pardon?

Glad to see that, but this stuff works - or they wouldn't do it.

It also 'takes up space', displacing chances for people to find any real honest reports on reality. Bit like the way some manufacturers put their products into cartons that are bigger than the content. Means shelf-space is taken up to 'advertise' their product *and deny shelf space to a competitor*. You seem to be "getting a lot" when in fact your choice is being reduced.

The can then rely on lies only having to be 'plausible' whereas the reality may be complicated and goes against what seems 'plausible' to those taken in by 'plausible' nonsense. Avoids people actually thinking.

Neil's self-immolation has been entertainingly impressive so far. And he's become the story for all the wrong reasons.

There’s no way back for him. He was dumb enough to sign-up to a vile far-right gammon/racist TV show so that is any journalistic credibility he may have had from The Sunday Times or BBC burned at that point. It’s gone. The man is a clown. I suspect even the ugly elitist Spectator may be damaged from his choices.

He has an astonishing level of self-belief and arrogance though - well observed by his appearances on that Daily Politics and the late-night one with Portillo. This man will be back when he finds another outlet for himself. His 'strength' is that he is seen as a great political interviewer/analyst and his years at the BBC have given him a reputation as someone who can carry out the job of anchorman. He's a recognised quantity and he knows it. It feeds his ego.
