Folk/Acoustic

Hi maccar, just bought L.Viers Troubled.. cd

Great find that Sammy Copley. You have a thouragh search process as I used to have, before I got fatty & lazy.
She sounds like a gentler Feist with an early Nick Drake delicacy, or Molly Drake.

A couple of CDs dropped through the letter box today.

Westward the Light's new set of mostly trad tunes called Flow Country (supposedly not on release until next week, but posted quickly after a Bandcamp order https://westwardthelight.bandcamp.com/)

also David Carroll and friends with their prog-folk (well, they are from Gryphon and Fairport) album Bold Reynold
https://talkingelephantrecords.bandcamp.com/album/bold-reynold-david-carroll-and-friends

Rather different albums, but both worth a listen

@sp25 I like the Westward.. song very much. What a room too- that's sort of my dream music room. Scots I presume.

Interesting fiddle LHS. This has an extra 4 strings but not in a usual "12 string guitar way", instead it seems 4 finer strings, a pair inside of the middle 2 standard strings, & it seems physically slightly lower too(?) if so meaning they're just resonators.. or something.

Really good @maccar (now this songwriting sounds, to me, what lou barlow would have 'evolved' into.. if he hadn't gone stale/ & stuck in the same 'ideas furrow' for the last 25 yrs).

Fresh & inspiring. i shall investigate A.Lenker.

If you enjoy Adrianne Lenker's solo material, be sure to check out Big Thief as she's the lead singer.

I've seen both her and the band live, and they were fantastic shows on each occasion. I own some of the LPs, but they just don't do it for me in the same way. Your results may vary.

Hi palasr, thanks- dipped into Big Thief, & it's definitely up my alley. Elliott Smith sort of avenue. Passed me by I think due to being a recent band. Lovely guitar sounds too.. I see attenuators atop princeton reverbs/ magnatones (= they know the deal = likely I'll dig them).

Apparently it's a Hardanger D'Amore, using sympathetic strings like a Hardanger fiddle and a viola d'amore. A bit more on them here https://www.hardangerdamore.com/index.php/Hardanger_d'Amore and a demo here

They are indeed a Scottish band https://westwardthelight.com/

Fascinating that sp25. I was eagle-eyed about the resonators, even if I can't count up to five. What a fabulous thing.

I must investigate these westward guys.

@sp25 do you know Heatmiser? Listening to big thief live (@gateway city arts) there's a tangible 'chemistry' with Heatmiser's Mic City Sons album. To my ears. It's the guitars' tone & touch, as much as the song quality too, & the 'cult' little-known-gem thing too. The drums are better here though. Great recommendation, I'm grateful.
