  1. Things you need to know about the new ‘Conversations’ PM system:

    a) DO NOT REPLY TO THE NOTIFICATION EMAIL! I get them, not the intended recipient. I get a lot of them and I do not want them! It is just a notification, log into the site and reply from there.

    b) To delete old conversations use the ‘Leave conversation’ option. This is just delete by another name.

Desert island discs was repeated today 9 am.

Did I tell everyone here I was introduced to John Renbourn at a friends house '88 ish? I was 18 or so, dossing & jamming as usual (band mate) whose mum was on the fringes of the 'Cotswolds/Oxfordshire etc' folk scene & a chum of JR's. Jacqui Mcshee also a friend too but I don't -think- there that night (we all got very caned you see).

    Just sayin, just showing off!

Can't believe we've reached 100 pages on this thread! never expected it when I started it.
Heard this on the Radio 2 Folk show this week, fascinating back story, all based around the visit of Buffalo Bill's show that reached these shore early 20th century

I do no listen to a lot of folk but I am going to see Karine Polwart next month....something so endearing and special about this lady and her music.
Also,5 min 13 sec song on youtube....Kate Wolf singing green Eyes. Her delivery is so unforced, smooth and so very beautiful.
Some fools might say that anyone could do that....but 95%+ can't.
(She also holds the world record for the number of blinks of her eyes during a song for this performance,;).)

@woodpecker I feel sorry for whoever counted her blinks, tallied them, & contacted Guinness with the results.

You see if only Joni Mitchell sang in this register (blinking Wolf woman), & not castrato, I might be able to stomach a song. Joan Baez too. I can't get through a minute there either.

Very sweet song, just heard it on YouTube. Lovely voice, & good strong gtr picking too.

It's great, isn't it! Nice to hear them teaming up with a good singer. The album launch is at Belper next Thursday https://theciderhouserebellion.com/gigs/ . I'll be there, hope that the band will - they're currently in north Sweden recording an album of joiks https://www.facebook.com/TheCiderhouseRebellion/

Rufus Wainwright released a Folk inspired album yesterday, folkocracy, a little cabaret as you might expect, but a nice easy listen

I expect so, it's one third her album and neither of the other two sing! :) Latest news from Sweden (just Adam and Murray there, visiting singer Sara Ajnnak) is that the drone Murray uses to do outdoor filming has got stuck at the top of a large conifer.... hope he doesn't try climbing up to retrieve it!

Double delight through the letterbox the other day - the Ciderhouse / Kirsty album and the delightful debut solo album Land from Liz Hanks.

Liz is a cellist with an eclectic range of collaborations with well-known artists - from improvised silent film accompaniment through pop, folk and classical.
This album features her multi-tracked cello with ambient outdoor recordings from near her home in Meersbrook, Sheffield. I've used the Merlin bird app to identify some of her singers!
You can hear the tracks and download on Bandcamp https://lizhanks.bandcamp.com/album/land but there aren't (yet) links to CD and LP sales there - use the normal sources or Hudson Records for these. Here is Liz talking about her musical journey.

As you know, I'm not a great fan of purely instrumental albums, but I love the cello and this is beautiful... available for more extensive listens on Spotify and other streams.
