Flat speaker cable

Anyone have experience with flat speaker cable?
I need to run some under a carpet for surround speakers but don't want to spend too much!

I have wondered if flat ribbon cable such as http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/flat-ribbon-cable/7193487/ might be a reasonable approach for flat speaker cables. 20 strands of 28 AWG should be O.K. if the run is not too long and it is readily available from many manufacturers. Wouldn`t want to run it under a high tread area though.

I think Rega do a flat cable, and QED used to make something flat.

Maplin do a nice range of flat speaker cable at reasonable prices , from about £3 per m.

QED makes one flat cable that is very flat indeed, the Rega one is much more thick. Moreover, the QED one retains its shape, you can do 90º angles with it and it stays that way.

How flat is flat? And how much is too much?

I have Tellurium Q Black which I rate highly in my system. But at ~£50pm it's not exactly cheap. Tellurium Q Blue is cheaper and is highly regarded. Never heard it myself though.

But as Moralcrusader said it does depend on what is thin and what is too much

I am using some Nordost blue heaven ls.....I like them alot. They have cheaper flat cables also, and the used market is a good place to look.

Tellurium Q Blue is flat, and about £16.50 a metre. I have in my office system & it sounds great.

The only other flat stuff I've used is second hand DNM, but that was ages ago. Should be cheap enough by now though.
