The one you always hear about is the FR64S, which is suppoed to be pretty good and comamds high prices in the used market - at least over here in the US.

I have just come across a FR64fx - does anyone know anything about them - preformance, suitable cartridges value etc...

Many thanks in advance for all your input...

The german hifi magazine stereoplay (2/1987) rated the FR-64fx Mk.II with "Spitzenklasse I" - the same league of the SME Series 3009R.

In the same review they rated the Zeta and the Linn Ittok LVII as "Absolute Spitzenklasse" - one class over the "Spitzenklasse I". They found the sound a little bit "metallic".

I have little experience with the FR-64S. With its 30 g (!) effectice mass it is far beyond flexibility and in my opinion also far overrated. It is perfect build and nice to look at (polished stainless steel). The sound is to my ears (to) bass heavy and lacks high frequency resolution.

The fx-version is built from aluminium and has an effective mass of 20 g. A friend of mine finds the same problems with the bass.
