Facing the actual magnitude of your music collection

Get rid. Having just finished clearing my parents' house, during which I cursed them every single day, if you care about your descendants don't leave them the godawful job of having to clear out all your crap.
When my folks popped their clogs my wife and sister in law chucked me and my brother out of the clearing process.
We would turn up to help then the first thing we’d pick up would lead to hours of reminiscing, we couldn’t chuck anything out, even though it was junk and we didn’t want it.

How about a box of used light bulbs? 15-20 suitcases in my dad's loft, all in good order and some nearly new. Among the best things I found were an old electrical consumer unit board complete with bits and a control panel console from a long since disposed of washing machine.
My old mum had her prescriptions regularly delivered.
There were getting on for 100 boxes of Co-codamol in her wardrobe…

The son of the old couple opposite was clearing their house prior to selling it. He was trying to keep to the ‘three piles’ rule: keep, charity shop, bin. The ‘keep’ pile kept growing, until his wife turned up and moved everything to the ‘bin’ pile.

Unless any younger family members express an interest, the directions in my will for my collections of LPs, 7"s and stereo equipment to be sold en masse to secondhand dealers in such things will remain. Saves me the worry of encumbering my next of kin, my executor the hassle of figuring what to do with specialised assets of moderate value, ensures they will end up in the hands of people that will appreciate them and stops me from thinking about their investment potential. I should probably include my comic book collection in that as well.

Saw a thing on social media which said "I'm afraid that when I die my wife will sell my records for what I told her I paid for them"...

I've told my kids I will put in my will that they must listen to the whole of each LP and CD first before selling any or I will come back to haunt them... and that includes both versions of 'Ascension' for example. I dont suppose that will make them decide to keep many, but I like to think they might find something they will use as a reminder of me
