The new firmware means that as well as direct streaming from Roon you can now stream direct from the Spotify app, so all you need is a pair of 8Cs and Spotify.
New Features
Spotify Connect
8-series products can now accept direct streaming via Spotify Connect. Simply click the devices icon in your Spotify app and select the name of your room.

Just to reiterate the new firmware means you can stream anything from Spotify directly to the 8Cs without Roon.
