Eric Joyce finally going to jail?

Looks like ex-MP Eric Joyce is finally going to be doing some jail time after pleading guilty to child pornography charges. For an ex-MP he has quite a long list of convictions already, so it is perhaps about time.

Amazing to think that scumbag replaced Dennis Canavan who, even if you didn't agree with his politics, was a good local MP in what used to be my constituency. It was one of those areas that absolutely anyone could stand for Labour and get in (and I think Joyce proved that as he was never popular locally given he didn't do much other than claim massive amounts of expenses), although that's of course changed in recent years.

Scumbag isn't a strong enough word for what he was convicted of. There isn't a word strong enough, there really isn't. Thank God he's being locked up.

Cue some fishies that say he is also a victim and should be rehabilitated, not just locked up. I'd cut his knob off.

He is absolutely not a victim. He deserves a punishment, within the law, that reflects the enormity of his crime. But if, and it’s obviously a very large if, he could be demonstrably shown to be rehabilitated, wouldn’t that save the tax payer a lot of money?

From what you hear about such prisoners he may not enjoy his time in jail.......
Yes, they don't like paedophiles and wife batterers, as I understand. But don't paedophiles get their own prison section to stop them from being beaten up?

The children involved were very young and, given his long list of previous convictions, you'd like to hope it'd warrant actual jail time rather than a suspended sentence. The judge's words did smack of something they might say to give him the sweats while waiting for sentencing, then give him a suspended sentence (because he eventually pled guilty) and let him know he's a very lucky boy to not be going to jail.

Public stonings are good value for money.

Isn’t this the guy who assaulted another MP in a commons bar?

He was involved in fights in the commons bars a couple of times (and was convicted of assault for one of them and fined). He was also convicted of another assault and got a suspended sentence for that, plus a breach of the peace at an airport that he was also fined for. All while an MP I think, as was his drink driving conviction. He ended up brawling with the police in most of those as well, including shouting to them that they couldn't arrest him because he was an MP. He was also fined for removing the electronic tag while on his suspended/community sentence.

He sounds like a very nasty piece of work who also has a serious drink problem.

I would imagine all this history will feed into the decision as to whether his sentence can be suspended or not. I'd guess 'not'.
