dCS Bartok and above, Chord Dave w/wo M-Scaler… Did owners of either compare the other? What else is there?

I often wonder what I am missing out on using a raspberry pi over an expensive streamer but never for long. This is, obviously, of no use to you, Alex.

 

Apart from maybe saving me £15,000+, no use at all.

 

The DCS Apex is only £21k, I’d get that.

 

And dont forget msb high end offerings too

And closely followed by bel canto who have some superb high end dacs

 

So, you’ve saved me £15K and cost me £21K. Thanks.

I haven't had the privilege of hearing the DAVE but the Hugo TT 2 and M Scaler is a pairing I could happily live with.

 

I have heard the Dave/M-Scaler but only in hi-end Naim systems where it’s the default. It sounds great but I’m really interested in the competition.

I listened to both Dave+Mscaler and dCS Bartok when I decided to replace my Chord DAC64/II. I also did the rounds at Munich in 2018 and 2019 but nothing else quite ticked all the boxes - some DACs sounded very good but the companies behind them did not inspire confidence in me (concerns over company longevity, importer support etc). Others had the corporate muscle but sounded boring to my ears.

I coud easily live with either. I chose the dCS over the Chord for two reasons - ergonomics and local dealer and importer support.

I initially chose a Bartok, later upgraded to Rossini (with a really good trade-in) then added the clock and have now had the Apex upgrade fitted

 

Only if its something Keith sells, if not , then no. All bits are different if Keith sells them, if others do, they are all the same.

Price of course, aesthetics, convenience perhaps but not in terms of sound quality through the same dac,
