Early October beach holiday

£5k will get alot of villa, but the property alone maketh not a luxury experience.

My exp that real luxury in Cyprus is starting at about £8k. Chef, driver, housekeeper included
Thats more than luxury! My needs are narrow. Chef and driver not necessary.

Imagine if it rained all week.

been there, rained for about 4 days out of 7 in the Maldives. It was fine, sitting on the veranda in shelter. Warm rain, private swimming pool fine.

With Maldives you are pretty much constrained to your island. Food is pricey, booze even more so. IIRC we spent about £1.2k on food and drink in a week for two about 8 years ago. Great holiday though HKG, Sing & Maldives - J Class all the way

A touch early for some of the Caribbean, tail end of the hurricane season.

We used to say Often in October, Never in November but it's stretching as the ocean warms up.

Barbados is getting quite commercialised; if you're ok with that and aware of the risk October should be good value.

They'll certainly be glad to see you!
I'm not risking it. I have never spent 5k on a one week holiday for 2 before. Weather needs to be sunny.

I go to Greece, to Kalymnos, a small island near Kos,

.

Off topic, but I love Kalymnos.
We found it by chance one year whilst island hopping. Found a place to stay on the west coast, and there was another small island very close, called Telandos.
A fantastic memory is an old man rowing us over to Telandos, where we had a meal on the jetty. He then came back and rowed us over again, in the dark. Wonderful.

Whilst more touristy our fav by far is Santorini.

Two, memories of Santorini ( which is lovely)

Walking with about a million others to try to get the best view of Sunset. sunset was lovely. Crowds, not so lovely.

My wife was about 6 months pregnant whilst there. Amazing number of Greek woman wanted to stroke her tummy. That was lovely.

we chose our accommodation very carefully. We could lounge in our private plunge pool and watch the sun go down with a glass of something chilled in hand

Yes. That is true.

I made the comment based on a conversation with Wifelet about visiting our favourite hotel on Barbados in December. My mistake.

Hotel name, please!

first time we went here http://www.fanarivillas.gr/
this was the suite we had http://www.fanarivillas.gr/sunset-honeymoon-suite-outdoor-whirlpool

second time here (as the first was fully booked) https://www.andronis-suites.com/en-us/home/index/#Andronis-Luxury-Suites

views of the sunset were better from the first.

There beach hotels in Santorini, but i would only stay in accommodation in Oia, far nicer. You can visit the beaches by bus. The main town Fira is pleasant, but busy.

Same here, but seemingly getting really seriously overrun with tourists nowadays.

Have they upgraded that airport yet? I have very unpleasant memories of queuing outside it in the midday sun just to check in. :(

it was busy, but many of the tourists vanish back to their cruise ship in the afternoon. I didn't feel it was over run. We found picking our time carefully we managed to avoid the hoards.

We went on some great private trips and rarely saw a soul on them.

Good God, I can’t believe how much the Maldives has increased in price. We’ve been a few times over the years, last time being Soneva Fushi. It’s lovely, but wouldn’t pay the prices asked now!

Go to Greek Islands every year (except this year...). October is a bit hit and miss weather wise but for the best trip, if you can sail (?) charter a yacht instead of a hotel. If you can’t sail hire a skipper. Complete freedom from the masses, island hop, drop anchor in empty, unspoiled coves, swim to empty beaches, G+T’s on deck watching the sunsets. You get the picture. Worlds away from crowded hotels and beaches etc.

yep 10 grand for a week in a stilted hut on the water.

The villages near Telendos are Myrties and Massouri. The rest of that side is more remote. That side has most of the climbing and most people stay there. It gives decent nightlife and plenty of restaurants without being like Magaluf. When I first visited in 2007 ish there was little development. It's about right now, plenty going on and lots of money into the economy without being full of drunks at 4am. It helps that the young people who visit are there for climbing, and the cliffs face west. This means a morning start, so people go to bed.
There are some big, scary climb s on Telendos. The cafes are nice though. It's a popular place to go for one night, because one night will show you the one village and surroundings. After that you have rather run out of things to do unless you are interested in climbing, in which case there is a lifetimes worth.

Canary Islands, Tenerife is a safe bet just be careful which resort you go to.

I really like Lanzarote but it can be windy.

I would be very wary about going abroad though but the choice is yours to make.
