Dyble Longdon

Just picked up my vinyl copy of Dyble Longdon's collaborative 'Between a Breath and a Breath'. Sadly Judy Dyble died before this was released so it will be a poignant listen.

On the cover of Fairport Convention's 1968 debut LP there is a picture of the band seated around a table with a Tiffany Lamp lighting their faces. On opening up the gatefold of Dyble Longdon there is a picture of David Longdon and Judy Dyble seated in front of an open fire. On the mantlepiece...a Tiffany Lamp.

Class.

OK, so I've just had a first listen to this and all I can say is...wow! Don't think I've ever listened to an album by someone who has a fair idea that it is the end of the road and is not shy about expressing it. Dyble's lyrics are sad but not maudlin and strangely uplifting all at the same time. David Longdon's musical arrangements are beautiful and the musicianship from him and various Big Big Train mates is exemplary.

This is a keeper. And a fitting tribute to Judy, a gracious soul. RIP.
