Digital audio out of Ipad Air first generation

How does one get this please?

The ipad has a lightening connector and runs OS 12.
I want run digital out to a usb B socket in back of amp. Does the little lightening/ micro usb adapter work or do I need another apple cable?

Or does OS12 allow a single cable to do it?

I'm using a first generation ipad air on ios 12.4.8 into my audiolab m-dac via USB using an apple camera connection kit USB 3.
This is used for streaming Spotify tidal and qobuz, and it works without any problems.

Look out for the Apple, lightning & USB adapter which means you can keep the iPad powered and use the USB out at the same time.

Be careful of the non-Apple versions on eBay and Amazon. We’ve do a lot of testing with them at work and they’re not all reliable. Some are fine, others aren’t.
