Whether or not there is a display at all depends on the position/angle of the screen to the keyboard. Based on my my aged experience, I had assumed that the ribbon cable connection was breaking up but the connection is actually a lead.
Hunting around the www the unanimous verdict would be that the connector that is part of the screen is dud and I need a new screen (which will cost me around £60 - model is 13 5000 series FWIW).
Anyone ant experience to say otherwise. The display cuts in and out, no halfway house, as the laptop is opened/closed.
