Deck + cart + riaa amp modesty

The OP’ premise was about the vinyl front end, not the whole system though.

Sure but we moved on to System 1 or Project etc!

I'm in the used P3 camp. DL110 on mine just now. Nait 3 with phono stage and something like Rega RS1s for much, much less than £2k

Where does the money start for a real front room system rather than a student bedroom though? I think the speakers on some decent stands will likely add a grand themselves these days, so £2k probably isn't that extreme...

I think that everything moving on from a decent starter separates system is incremental upgrades unless you spend a lot of money. A 2K system is not going to be twice as good as 1k one.

So the question is: What, rather more modest priced, system could be suggested as a way to get to enjoy LPs?

I had a chance to have a listen to my daughters system while dog sitting the other day. Comprising an older P1 fitted with a Bias cart into an IO driving new Kytes. It sounded pretty good (imo) playing a recent re-issue of Fleetwood Mac's 'Rumours' and a beat up original of Robert Cray's 'Bad Influence'.

About 6 months ago I assembled a rather sweet sounding vinyl setup for a neighbours kid (17) for the princely sum of £195 from a local charity warehouse outlet.

Took some persuading to get the little twat away from the Crossleys, Ions and other cheap record wreckers or speakers with multiple bling drivers (think Littlewoods catalogue/Brighthouse).
Anyway, you should have seen his face when I hooked it all up for him and stuck a record on (he bought 5 in the charity warehouse which I RCM'd for him).

If you buy sensibly and synergistically, from 1K to 2K about 20%, from 2K to 5K about 10% and 5K to 10K 5% if you’re lucky. 10K to 20K 2% with a following wind, 20K to 100K+ -20% on average.

Then there are choice outliers that cost buttons, especially second hand.

Rega Eco P1/Carbon (£199) with amp (Rega Io) and speakers (Dali Zensor 1's) from the used market. Full system should be doable for under £600.
Coincidently, although I didn't specify the speakers, I recommended the same set up to a friend who was asking if I had any turntables for sale for his son. Although I do have quite a few, they're either way too expensive and/ or too specialised. The Dalis were exactly the sort of speakers I was thinking of too.
