He played an extraordinary, largely two hander, with Patrick Stewart, in the Star trek TNG episode "Chain of Command".

Perhaps. But I always mixed him up with Nicholas Farrell.

A real shame ...

One of those actors who appeared to be always there and in so many films ...

I only really remember him from Morgan (which I was too young to understand at the time) and Providence (when I was a bit older, but still didn't really understand..)

Providence was fantastic, and yes, very odd, although John Gielgud’s character had a glass of wine (Chablis IIRC) in his hand virtually throughout, which obviously appealed. Sadly, I never saw Morgan.
