Having sold off my aging Roksan Caspian Mk1 CDP I am now using a universal / blu-ray player (Marantz UD5005) for music.
I'm pretty happy with it (SACDs in particular sound wonderful), but the Caspian was a very 'non-digital' sounding player, and I think the Marantz is adding a touch of harshness, although it could well be that it is simply a more revealing player.
Anyway, the question is, would the addition of an external DAC bring about significant improvements, or am I just as well leaving things alone - from my experience differences in digital sources have been marginal. It will be used solely for a hi-fi setup and fed into a Cairn amp.
I'm sure this has been covered a million times but the search facility doesn't like 3 letter words.
