Cricket 2022 - for all things cricket this year on PFM

That is a devastating summary! Drop him now while he still has a remote chance of working his way back into the team.
Replace with Jos. Toss a coin with Pope to decide position or discuss and decide like adults.
Pope, Buttler, Root, Bairstow, Stokes is enough to strike fear into any opposition. Fits the new ethos of play to win (why did it take so long ??) and will bring in the paying crowds. Simple really.

One lesson that NZ can teach us is in supporting players. County cricket is too easy for some of these players a lot of the time so where else do they learn? Opening is not easy - Root couldn't do it when he came into the side.

It will be interesting to see what the new regime does, but like I said I think they will show at least some patience and give him one more game. It does of course help that England are winning and everyone else has been playing well or at least showing promise (Lees has been unlucky I think).

I agree. All I'm saying is support Jos for a Test place as the potential is so much higher. Jos, and Stokes for that matter, can learn from Bairstow. Don't need a boundary from every ball in Test matches: can wait ohh an over or two :) Think Gilchrist or Sharma...
If anything England selectors are guilty of giving too many games to the point that person never recovers confidence or a chance of a Test place again.

tenfer is something. It might have been two more too if Root had been able to miracle those fast chances.

I agree with Spraggons re Butler, although in the new ethos team maybe the Psychology would be different.
I am wondering how this new 'play to win' (if that's it's name) philosophy will play out when the opposition knocks down three fast wickets and has some power batting? Australia is going to prove 'interesting'.

It might be a good lesson for England were they not to make the total today - it supposed to brighten up later. They need to find the right balance, that was Crawley's downfall yesterday and Stokes in the 1st test.

I dunno this run chase has been rendered somewhat meaningless by the fact that NZ played Bracewell. Once the shine was off the new ball, there was little threat to lose wickets and they were easily able to crack along at 4 an over.

When the series started I thought there was zero chance of us winning a match but we have done very well , however NZ did not play at their best , lets see how we do against India before getting too excited

I think it was Hussain who said it was like each team had taken on the others identity e.g. NZ had no faith in their specialist spinner and the top order misfiring too. The series was played in good spirit and it was good to see England players giving frank interviews.

India have given us a wake up call and I will be very surprised if we win this test . Broad also set a record for most runs scored off an over in a test

OK can we drop Crawley now ?
Even if they won't bring in Buttler for the poor excuse he is white ball captain anyone else will do.
