Cricket 2021 - all things cricket for this year on pfm

Bairstow producing a 100 , really well done and Stokes with a good score ,at least we have made a reasonable total and a big improvement so far this test , we just need Root to produce his magic in the 2nd innings !
 
aussies pilled runs on with Kawaga making another ton , maybe a draw a possibility due to bad weather ! Finger injuries to Bairstow and Butler and Stokes with a side strain making the selection for the next test very difficult as all 3 will probably be out .Billings on his way from the Big Bash as emergency cover
 
Some enterprising England player should go out and make sure he gets Omicron and spreads it around. And then all Run Awayyyyyyy
 
Crawley and Bairstow should have been in the team from the start of the series. Glad to see the back of Butler - had a face like a slapped arse for the whole of the tour. Also I hate to agree with Boycott on anything but maybe now Stokes will concentrate on being the best batter he can become and forget about the bowling. He could easily captain the team from batting at number 5 or 6.
 
Butler had not really been with it the whole series ,he just did not seem to be in test mode ! He normally smashes it out of the park in T20 but hardly scored any runs and keeping not great , maybe too much cricket in other formats .
 
Nice to get a draw and we put in a respectable if not winning performance , selection for the next one could be interesting

And not just his performance with the gloves/bat - a lot of keepers are chatty and cajoling in order to keep spirits up when the going is tough but not so Butler. I cant help thinking we missed a trick not playing Bairstow from the beginning of the series instead and Crawley in at no.5 given his stroke play but inadequate defence against the new ball. And with Stokes playing as a batsman and captain at no.6, it just leaves Wood, Broad, Anderson and Robinson as the quicks and Root as our token spinner.

Hey presto we might have at least made it competitive.
 
Thorpe made a good case to become the full time coach I thought (although a ukipper is probably the last thing they need right now.) It's hard to judge too much from a dead rubber though.

yes, there was talk at the beginning of the Silverwood reign of the keeper for the test team being picked on his ability with the gloves and not the bat which would have got Foakes the job.
 
I blame Adam Gilchrist, nobody is allowed to be just a specialist wicketkeeper now. They prefer batsmen who can catch the odd ball rather than a specialist 'keeper who might be good for fifty.
