Cricket 2021 - all things cricket for this year on pfm

They have not forfeit.
That has been rescinded. The Authorities are to decide on the result.

5th test cancelled - India forfeit - series drawn.

A real shame and given how we played in three of the four matches it doesn`t seem fair to draw the series.
Not true.
They have withdrawn the forfeit and are in negotiation with the authorities.

Yes they've backtracked and removed that line from the statement:

The initial statement from the ECB said: “India are regrettably unable to field a team and will instead forfeit the match.”

However, this was soon amended with the line about India’s forfeiture removed, pointing to tense negotiations taking place behind the scenes between the ECB and their counterparts at the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The updated statement read: “Following ongoing conversations with the BCCI, the ECB can confirm that the fifth LV= Insurance Test between England and India men due to start today at Emirates Old Trafford, will be cancelled. Due to fears of a further increase in the number of Covid cases inside the camp, India are regrettably unable to field a team. We send our sincere apologies to fans and partners for this news, which we know will cause immense disappointment and inconvenience to many. Further information will be shared in due course.”

India have offered to reschedule.

“The BCCI have offered to reschedule the fifth Test. ‘Both the Boards will work towards finding a window to reschedule this Test match.’”

Maybe England men should play the English Ladies test team, wait on reflection maybe not, getting beaten again would not look too good :D

Was in Manchester overnight yesterday, quite amusing watching all the fancy dressers with nowhere to go. Seems a rather cynical decision from the Indian camp if the rumours are true.

Very late in the day with the decision , terrible for fans who may have travelled a long way and paid for accomodation etc ,not sure if it needed to be cancelled but more notice should have been given as they must have known a few days ago that there was a possibility of it not going ahead

I’m pissed off that the refund does not include the £5 booking fee on the £35 ticket.

£35???? We pay, reluctantly, £100 or so at Lords and The Oval.
It’ll have to be an extra test next year. Won’t happen, I’m certain of that. Now if it had been Lords or the Oval…

"Refunds to ticket holders will be issued shortly, and although this will be no consolation to many, we will try to reschedule this long-awaited Emirates Old Trafford Test next summer...."

If one one of the ‘smaller’ test playing nations had behaved like this book would be thrown but different rules for India.

Big difference in that the tams were supposed to be in a secure bubble with a strict lockdown in the country. There were no fans with tickets, no food franchises…
The secure bubble was breached by hotel employees introducing Covid. Further, Ravi Shashtri had thrown a party and also attended a book signing session resulting in him contracting Covid and introducing it. The Indians never wanted to play this test as they all had big IPL contracts. Indeed, at a team meeting this was the main concern.

A couple of the Indian squad were spotted out in Manchester the night before, never any intention of playing the game. Very cynical, team should be banned from all cricket for 6 months.
