This BBC article got me thinking.

What's the best cover version in your collection or even the most bizarre?

Grace Jones is an obvious contender here, she really made other songs her own, e.g. Nightclubbing, Private Life, Warm Leatherette, She's Lost Control etc. Another favourite is The Au Pairs' cover of Bowie's Repetition:

The Black Crowes - Hard to Handle and, yes, Jimi's All Along the Watchtower must feature and I wouldn't disagree with any number of Grace Jones' tracks.

Well leaving aside obvious ones like Hangin' On The Telephone, All Along The Watchtower and The Model, these are nice.

Scout Niblett's minimalist take on Althea & Donna

James Blake doing Feist (good for sub woofer abuse)

Robert Wyatt doing Chic

I like The Slits "dubby" version of I Heard it Through The Grapevine. In my collection certainly the most the bizarre, possibly also the best.

Some of the best are those that do something different with the song; I always thought Nazareth were great at this, with tunes like Joni Mitchell's 'This Flight Tonight', and others .....

I think Transatlantic's remake of Procul Harum's 'In Held 'Twas I' is tremendous, and their take on Salty Dog is no slouch, either.

The best cover version in my collection (if it counts as a cover):

The oddest cover version in my collection:

The best cover version ever:
