i was already using amazon web services (AWS) for non-photo work stuff, but decided to use the S3 "bucket" service over the weekend as a second backup strategy.

an important thing is to create the appropriate "lifecycle rule" to shift from standard to "glacier"storgae after a day, which brings the cost down to minuscule levels.
also, i would recommend installing the AWS CLI software. this allows you to run simple sync commands for your backup like:
aws s3 sync /media/bobby/WD2TB/FOTO/LEICA s3://bobby-photo-bucket/LEICA
