Hi guys, afcter three years of stressing about this beast of a unit, I have finally managed to get it built.

Although not finished as yet, I wanted to upload the pics on PFM for all to see.

I intend on wax finishing the MDF so that it sits well in my lounge. If anyone has advice on wax finishing MDF, please do let me know and of course, would love to hear your opinions of my rack.

Simple Design and weighs without goodies circa 250kg, with everything on it, it now weighs just shy of 400 kg.

And I am now building another one for my TV / A/V area and another for a friend.

Rodrat send me an email to [removed by TL]

I can then send you all the info you need.

FYI rough cost on materials is just under £400 and that was after 3 long years of searching for the cheapest.

Can send you CAD drawings if you like?

I used a similar construction method to build a Garrard plinth, spacers were drilled brass rod and aluminium Hoover attachment. I'm serious and I think it looks very smart.

Very nice, that really does look superb! Inspiration from the TNT Flexy-Table perhaps? Similar construction, but you look to have gone with much more substantial threaded bar (or is it pipe) which I imagine takes the "Flexy" bit out of the equation! Where did you source it?

If you wanted to tart it up with a bit of chrome (personally I wouldn't, I really like the contrast between the quite industrial looking uprights and the more domestic looking shelves), I've used something called "Radsnaps" before because you can't use chrome pipe with Speedfit fittings and I don't think anyone has noticed! I think they are available in various sizes and lengths, but you probably have to go to somewhere a little more specialist than B&Q to find the larger longer ones. Just thinking it could save you time consuming dis and reassembly!

PS Nice to see someone toeing the line between orthodox and heterodox factions with two Technics and a Rega there! :D

Very nice work cliffy. I particularly like the contrast between metal & wood - really pleasing to my eyes.

Got to admire a man with 3 decks, never mind the shelving.

Thanks fella. Love the compliment. Have a forth one too. But the unit would have been too big I.e. 2200mm wid rather than 1800mm wide. Swmbo would have slaughtered me

Sorry 2400mm wide

I've removed the email address from post 3 - publishing email addresses on the open internet is very unwise, they'll inevitably end up being harvested and added to mass spam lists etc. Far safer to use the PM system.

No need to apologise at all, I just don't want you to get bombarded with a lifetime supply of spam for a simple error!
