My suggestion if you're new to classical music is to go for the well known "pot boilers" and warhorses. These are popular for a good reason - they are tuneful, exciting and accessible. Try Beethoven's 5th symphony, Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture, Vivaldi's fours seasons, Sibelius's Karelia suite. You'll soon find stuff that appeals and will tempt you to explore further.
