Classical music cuts crime in NZ

Wellington - Classical music piped through speakers has dramatically reduced crime rates in the centre of New Zealand's second largest city, retailers said on Monday.

They said the introduction of soothing music from composers such as Mozart had seen the number of anti-social incidents attended by security guards in Christchurch's City Mall fall from 86 a week in 2008 to two a week this year.

Well it does make sense. But maybe the young people who used to hang out in the shopping mall don't go there any more, and have moved to another mall where the music is more to their taste and where crime has increased. It would also be interesting to know if sales have gone up or down.
