The All-Purpose Antisocial Justice Worriers releases thread

My life needs post-modern punk like a hole in the head.

Sign me up for a copy on 7,10 or other inched vinyl (it matters not as I don’t have a TT any longer).

As long as it’s signed.

(Good on you Ms Foxx)

Finishing the last track “No Ordinary Life”. I re-recorded the last track because I was hearing ringing from the bass mic channel (the reason why is obvs - see pic) and rather than use filters/multipressors on that one track I decided to just move the space heater and re record.

My bass/punk guitar usually takes up 5 tracks.

1. Mic (bass) 2. Mic Guitar 3. DI via the alpha/omega pedal 4. DI clean input via bypass and 5. Guitar DI vie the Kraken passed into a noise gate.

That’s enough for a song with a clean bass overdub and a couple of guitar overdubs after. Fast fix, fast results. Reproducable live. I like a bit of bleed as well, it’s not the bête noire it used to be.

Time to pack up the drum kit for the next single planned after this.

Reposted - error in link

That's it.Track 4/4 of my Punk EP, "No Ordinary Life". Just over 4 minutes this time. My message to anyone transitioning & suffering: it gets better, it really does. Hold on to that idea. It feels almost impossible and dangerous to believe -- but it'll happen.

Now to send off for Vinyl Mastering and a Radio Edit to go on USB sticks in the press packs to replace swear words with less sweary words (because that's what's needed for radio, still, in 2019 -- same as it has always been since 1977.) Some artwork to be added and its time to get this show on the road.

19 Minutes of Queer Positive and Righteous Anger put to music. Woo.

The same goes for me, really (although I do have a TT, but on a different floor to the nearest amp.)

Although will the unsigned copies be rarer? (Sorry, old joke.)

Seriously though, @claire.foxx does this count as an order (yes please) or do I need to do something else?

Nothing needed yet, I’ll see how the Online promo code system works for orders/preorders. I’m just getting the revised production quote finalised, which dictates final selling price.

Signed or numbered copies... hmmm... nah... not really worth it on just 250 is it? Maybe at gigs? If ppl ask for it, I’d be flattered, honestly.

I am so tired of these songs now; this is all brutally repetitive. I’m glad it’s done. Going to do some sane and boring weeding in the gravel now.

"claire.foxx, post: 3775771, member: 29593" Going to do some sane and boring weeding in the gravel now.

You do have a decent crop of weeds going on there - will you remove them individually, or nuke them??

Are all four tracks purchaseable (?) as a single EP entity, or do I need to do it one by one?

Yes all 4 tracks as a single EP purchase soon. Bandcamp won’t let me aggregate the currently uploaded tracks into an EP, so I have to re-up everything again into an EP.

I’m also setting up vinyl preorders as well. The mighty Dubplates and Mastering in Berlin have got the gig and even though iy is only my crappy pop-punk, the dance/IDM gods are ensuring it all gets safely transferred to wax.

I think this is 10” - 45rpm-able which is great.

monies sent. Its in the hands of better people now... I sent the files for my EP off for mastering. I cannot hold back any more because of my crippling “augh” vocal dysphoria. Hopefully throat pitch/resonance surgery soon... until then, here we go!

8-10 weeks til delivery, already working on the follow up. The feedback has been great.

Thank you. word of mouth is how I want this to work. Though I want to do a youtube video as a promo.

I’m gravitating towards £16.99 (£12.99 at gigs) - for 10” Heavy White Vinyl with download code/(plus badges/stickers for the first 100) - 4 track EP contains 20 no-filler minutes of music not available on Spotify or Apple or Tidal etc.

Without recording costs (as it’s all at home this is hard to factor in) manufacturing costs is about £2200 for strictly limited 250 copies. Unit manufacture costs go down when you press more but I’m smol and unknown right now.

  • Mastering/Laquer is £400 - I am paying a lot more than usual but it’s probably the best ppl in the industry mastering this.
  • Covers and Pressing is £1600 inc vat inch printed inner
  • Download code stuffing/lyrics sheets and so on £100
  • delivery £50
  • Bandcamp take 10%
  • 5 x test pressings advised - just in case. £60
  • Graphic design and artists £200-400
I need to sell >180 to break even and any profits go into its follow up 10” EP (already working on art commish and recording as I’d been stockpiling my material and I’ve a lot to choose from) — or a black vinyl repress.

Shipping/mailers to consider — specialist and high quality mailers are as discussed in /off topic by someone else not cheap, tape, postage and card reinforcement, I’m one of you here — far too many damaged records in the post so cruciform, card stiffener (do 10” ones exist?) around a factory shrink wrap unit. I think £16.99 for 20 minutes of music on EP which gets you a bandcamp download code In 20-bit/44.1 FLAC and WAV, a lyric sheet with some of my favourite trans-punk furry artists contributing sketches and stickers and badges — will be a strong start.

Radio/Internet AirPlay is happening which is nice as it trickles direct track sales once in a while, the download master is being managed by Steve Nagasaki in LA. At Nagasaki Sound, he’s doing a package for the digital assets. I want to do media slots for Trans and LGBT and music publications as I’m in the Queercore/Trans-Punk camp and that genre needs a reboot - especially now in a pretty hostile world where we have to fight for our right to exist.

It’s been a while since I whored out myself like this. We begin.

Downloading now - none of this retro vinyl mallarkey for me. Downloads are a godsend for the terminally impatient.

Enjoying the direct approach.

Thank you. It’s a lot less expensive with downloads as well! I wished vinyl was cheaper to make.

DP&M just called to say the energy on the record is best captured on 12” @ 45RPM. 10” was just a little squeezy for 4 x 5 minute pop-punk songs and going down to 33.3RPM was a compromise I did not want to make. So the designer is rescaling the art and labels and I’m prepping the disk manufacturing ppl. 10” is apparently a bit of a merde swarf-wise anyway - the things you learn... I learn.

Onto Inner sleeve: an artist I wanted to use can do inner sleeve art for me, I was going to just photocopy lyrics and C&Paste down some B&W furry artists I like as companion art with each lyric but I decided to commission full-colour 30x30 art and the other side be a collage of lyrics, aforementioned cartoons, my medications, medical scans. My life in a nutshell. To keep the project on budget I’m considering forgoing white/splatter vinyl and go heavy black vinyl and opt for a 250gsm full-colour inner sleeve.

Is coloured vinyl that important? It’s £250 more for either fancy full art card sleeve and heavy vinyl or just a paper sleeve with a hole in it and standard weight coloured vinyl — which is more important? Sound wise coloured is probably as good as standard black, it’s just cost vs visuals.

I feel pretty picture inner sleeve and heavyweight black vinyl is the way?
What say you?

Doesn’t heavy black vinyl just use more vinyl? Nice to have and to hold but I never heard audible benefits (ready to admit I buy the wrong records).

Sound quality is probably identical. The audible change was going up from 10” @ 33.3RPM to 12” @ 45RPM as a deeper cut for the stamper and a wider cut possible with 12” heavy pressings anecdotally have fewer warp issues and slightly more stable release at stamping but they come at a waiting list. 140g seems fine. 180g is a wait of an extra 4 weeks and I’m not sure it’s a dealbreaker.

...for me it’s more about perception: cost is identical fo either choice of coloured vinyl/paper inner vs black vinyl and card art inner sleeve and the feeling ppl have when holding it. I personally like a black record, a cool label and “stuff to look at”. I’m willing to sacrifice colour vinyl and paper for a printed card liner sleeve for people to look at while playing the record and I’m seeing what ppl prefer.

mind you people will have to get their own Nagaoka sleeves ;P

I've never been too bothered about coloured vinyl (or the weight to be honest ) and given the choice I always pick black.
