Choosing a high quality preamp kit

I would like to build a high quality active preamp from kit form, with which to drive active speakers.

Ideally one that comes as a complete kit or at least with parts easily sourced.

A built in phono stage would be a bonus but not essential.

Overriding consideration will be sound quality.

All advice gratefully appreciated.

Also with valves the World Designs preamp kits could be a good choice, particularly if balanced outputs are needed.

I have built a fair few of Rod Elliott’s kits and found them to be good.
His website can be found by googling ESP products.
He is very down to earth.
Cheers Andy.

I’ll have to disagree with you, for what it costs to build it is simply stunning, way better than just excellent!

I have two of those full kits unbuilt. I should get on and get them build.

I Have built a PD B4 and used that for a few years its very good but its unity gain, so I decided to build a pre amp with 2 of LesW 821A boards and a power supply, again this is excellent and I am still using it every day, out of interest I built a Salas DCG3 and again an excellent pre amp with a sound quality on par with the 821A, it also gives you a very good Headphone amp as well, but I have never got round to finishing off the switching for multiple inputs so its not in regular use ATM.
