Blue Note Records: Beyond The Notes BBC4 15/11/19

Another +1 and I'm keeping my eye out for the transmission date of the Miles Davis Birth of the Cool documentary due on BBC in the New Year.

Love this label. Have a set of double albums where a Dutch DJ was let into the archives to make up the playlists. On my turntable a lot.

Is that the Blue Note Trip series by DJ Maestro?

On a more hip-hop note you might also like the Diggin On Blue series from 1999. https://www.discogs.com/label/867157-Diggin-On-Blue-Series
CD only except the Biz Markie mix https://www.mixcloud.com/SoulCoolRecords/biz-markie-diggin-on-blue/

Madlib's Shades of Blue is ace too https://www.discogs.com/Madlib-Shades-Of-Blue/release/158142

Just watched it, great program, well worth it! Thanks Stunsworth, would not have known about it without this thread!

Yes, watched this too, and enjoyed it. Thanks for alerting us to this. I particularly enjoyed the contributions of Lou Donaldson, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. However, I do find myself increasingly frustrated by TV. There were lots of aspects of the Blue Notes story they touched on and I thought I'd like to know more. But maybe it is a success if it leaves you wanting more. Loved the snippets of all the good music from this label and I've been playing Speak No Evil this evening.
