Bernie Sanders

A shame about his health, hope he gets better. I guess this knocks him out of the running for 2020?

I wish him a speedy recovery it would be great to have him as president i really feel he would make a monumental shift in the right direction not only for the States but the world as well.

Guys, it's about beating Trump, not about winning one or two states like McGovern. Will the Democrats ever produce a candidate deserving that name. As nice a guy Bernie Sanders might be (and I like him), he was a joke from the onset.

Where are the women by the way ? Preferably of the Merkel type rather than an unelectable radical leftie. That's it, 20 years of Merkel for the US, time to fix a lot of things.

Your absolutely correct on that one for the sake of democracy. Otherwise, without a creditable opposition/rival, government policy and legislation goes through unchallenged.

There are quite stark parallels between US and UK politics at the moment although, as Michel Moore's Farenhith 11-9 makes clear, the influence of business is greater in the States.

My wife performs this procedure on multiple people daily. It shouldn't take him out of the running, but with the Trump/Russia spin machine, it opens him up to attack (like Hillary's fainting spell).

what are you talking about? sanders beats trump in every poll. that was also true in 2016.

do you even know what is going on at all? elizabeth warren seems to be in the (primary) lead right now -- if not, is an extremely close second and about to overtake.

vuk, with all respect, please allow me to doubt about it. Unless the polls were all made on liberal campuses... And about the 2016 polls, we've seen the result.

Far less than you indeed, as there is water between my country and the USA. I am nevertheless an avid news reader (paper stuff from my GF's editorial office, not online rags) and democrats look totally lost from what I gather.

Surely Sanders’s health issues has ruled him out of contention now?! The American left need to unite behind the next most credible option, whoever that is. Anyone but Biden!

I'd say he's toast on the perception factor. Moderates who were lukewarm can now rally around the old man with a bad heart narrative rather than hold their nose to hang a chad.

I think the polls show only three viable candidates, all others noise. Biden, Warren, Sanders. All compromised, conflicted and ancient.

The interesting candidates are Gabbard and :Yang, but they seem to have no traction at all.

I would assume the Democrats want to beat Trump, the polls show otherwise. Perhaps it will become more clear when actual primaries start next February, assuming any credible candidates are left.

Warren is a perfect example of what causes the face in my avatar. She was a Reagan republican through the 90s because, she claims, she thought Reagan best supported the market structure she believed in. Never mind that Reagan's market strategies have decimated america's middle class since he left office, because now little Lizzy is a senate committee tycoon roasting, card carrying quasi-socialist with a 6 figure bank account. Proving that Democrats tumble from the same cart of horseshit as republicans, they're just marketed to a different customer.

She has drifted further to the right the more the media establishment has championed her.

The Neocon terrorist: Bill Kristol endorsed her a few weeks back. Then I hear that she blames Iran for the US pulling out of the JCPOA, and is committed to keeping the sanctions - which are starving millions - on Venezuela, and that endorsement made sense, as did the establishment support.

Clinton 2.0.

can you be a little more vague?

how do the polls show what you're saying? who are the credible republican candidates that you think can beat the likes of sanders of warren?

Biden, tangled up in corruption, the more impeachment mud thrown at Trump the more will end up sticking to Joe.
Sanders, socialist millionaire, not sound on guns due to needing to represent Vermont, deteriorating health.
Warren, faux person of colour, weathervane history.

And they are all very old. Against Trump they are all vulnerable to crude politics. No idea about any other Republican, Trump is atypical. Sanders is the most credible, it would be hard to get to his age after his career and not be relatively well off, it's to his credit that he doesn't stink of dodgy cash like most congresspeople and senators.

There are much more attractive Democrat candidates, so I find the polls surprising. The polls I am referring to are the ones between the Democrats for candidate, not theoreticals against Trump.

Less vague?

Clinton 2.0.
This is a good detailed summary of Warren's foreign policy position:

Usual caveats apply: ideally, you should track down all of the original quotes and view them in context. It's a standard journalist trick to take cherry-pick statements and present them out of context to make them look worse than they really are.

It's a mixed picture to be sure, but it's unfair to describe it as Clinton 2.0. Then again, I never believed that Clinton was Clinton 1.0. For example, Warren is far more vocal about domestic economic justice than Clinton ever was, and the above article acknowledges this.

My view is that if Sanders is the US version of Corbyn, Warren is akin to Emily Thornberry. It goes without saying that either is vastly preferable to Trump.

PS: After reading the above article, I was told that I might also like https://inthesetimes.com/article/22091/trolls-twitter-discord-sanders-warren-wfp. :)

Sanders is done. The words heart attack cut two ways. If you've had one, it's a great discount card. If you're running for office, not so much.

i agree about biden, but what you are saying about sanders and warren are hyeorbolic smears based either on trivialities or really bad reasoning. for example, having a million in wealth is nothing, especially late in life. it's not as if bernie was born a millionaire or, more importantly, behaved like one all his life. if anything, the attack (even though still totally dodgy) could be aimed at warren, who is a lot wealthier.

i suspect you're in tune with the progressive movement, which now constitutes the democratic base. sanders and warren are indeed the reasonable choices. biden is a fast-sinking artifact of old people and name recognition with those who are no following politics closely.
